SMSI is looking for a Project Manager 3 for work at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). This is a full-time position. Job Description The Project Manager leads a cross-functional group of Integrated Project Team (IPT) members, assembled to successfully execute a set of project objectives. The Project Manager ensures that the project objectives safely meet the Project Owners requirements and are fulfilled within cost and schedule constraints. Coordinates and administers a project from project planning, engineering, and procurement through construction and start-up. Establishes and maintains liaison with the customer throughout the entire project to resolve problems and coordinate service functions. Participates in planning and establishing schedules, forecasts, budgets, parameters, etc., and monitors progress to assure schedules are met and work is performed safely within budget. Provides assistance in the review of contract documents.Job Duties

  • Safety and security are a primary responsibility for all Laboratory Assures safety and security compliance, maintains required safety and security training, , and makes safety and security an integral par of every task, including taking the necessary steps to stop work if continuing the job is unsafe or compromises security.
  • Leads the IPT to ensure that project work is executed in a safe, cost -effective, and compliant manner while meeting project performance objectives and goals.
  • Manage the development and execution of project technical, cost, and schedule baselines including the early development and documentation of pre-conceptual and conceptual working baselines and customer expectations.
  • Assess project scope and develop quantities and job-hour estimates for his/her assigned project tasks, update forecasts and estimates to project controls, and perform confidence assessments for use in contingency development.
  • Ensure management of the project scope, cost, and schedule in accordance with DOE Orders and institutional requirements as defined in SD350, Project Management for Capital Asset Acquisition and construction.
  • Analyze and monitor project risks.
  • Develop and maintain cost and schedule management reserve and contingency plans that are commensurate with the Project Owners acceptable risk level for the project.
  • Serve as the focal point for both internal and external communication on the project.
  • Ensure that appropriate resources are applied to successfully execute the project and meet project commitments consistent with the direction of the Project commitments consistent with the direction of the project.
  • Collaborates in developing and documenting the project scope, execution plans, budget, and overall Keeps project management informed of project status, highlighting deviations from plans. Anticipates potential problem areas and analyzes and recommends solutions or corrective action.
  • Assures that revisions and proper adjustments to schedules and forecasts are Establishes functional relationships between the various contributing organizations to execute the project in accordance with project procedures manual. Assists in reviewing project scope for conformance to contractual requirements and assures that proper and sufficient documentation exists to process scope change notices.
  • Participates in special assignments and administrative studies as assigned.
  • May serve as a Control Account Manager (CAM) responsible for planning, budgeting, managing and controlling costs and schedule performance for a project or subproject and serve as a point of contact for project controls, including account scope, schedule, budget and technical Assist in ensuring work packages realistically represent the duration and budget necessary to perform work and perform variance analysis reviews, determine cause and effect of schedule or cost variance and define achievable corrective action plans.

  • Knowledge of all aspects of project management tools and techniques relating to engineering, construction and field activities of a self perform or subcontracted construction project.
  • Has advanced experience in various project management activities such as planning, budgeting and performance measurement.
  • Skill in oral and written communication. Skill in applying team building concepts.
  • For positions also serving as a Control Account Manager (CAM), advanced knowledge of and experience with project controls and/or project management, project budgets including cost estimating, cost control and cost analysis, project scheduling, implementation of corrective actions, developing and delivering detailed and accurate status reports and advanced knowledge of and experience with engineering functions and principles required to understand and successfully implement and monitor technical projects.
  • Advanced knowledge of Earned Value Management System (EVMS) tools and processes.Education
  • Position requires a Bachelors Degree in Engineering or Scientific discipline from an accredited institution and 8 years experience in one of the following functions: engineering, procurement or construction leading to a thorough understanding of the knowledge described above; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. All candidates must posses:
