Job Description:
Position Summary The Environmental Professional 1 supports the Los
Alamos Legacy Cleanup Contract for the U.S. Department of Energy,
Office of Environmental Management, and Los Alamos NM Field Office.
This position reports to the N3B Low Level Waste Program Manager
within the CH-TRU Low Level Waste Programs and Disposition
Organization, and is responsible for supporting N3B Environmental
Remediation Program as a deployed Environmental Professional whose
skills are integral for the safe and compliant management of Low
Level, Hazardous, and Non-Hazardous Waste materials from the point
of generation through offsite final disposition. This position
involves a high level of collaboration within and between N3B
organizations to ensure work is performed in a safe and compliant
manner, in accordance with applicable Federal, State, and local
laws and regulations, and DOE Orders. Essential
Duties/Responsibilities (may include, but are not limited to):
- Coordination of waste management with N3B waste
generators.
- Provide support of waste generator activities.
- Support management of waste packages from the point of
generation through being sealed, characterized, and placed into
waste storage area through final disposition.
- Support compliant packaging, characterization, and
transportation of waste.
- Outside of TA-54 Area G, perform waste inspections to ensure
compliant waste storage.
- Assist Generator with on-site waste profile development.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities):
- Waste Management experience and knowledge of LLW waste, desired
but not necessary.
- 40 hour Hazwoper Certificate
- Ability to work within established policies and procedures
- Enjoy working in a team environment with a strong safety
culture.
- Good communication skills, reasoning ability and computer
skills necessary to perform essential functions of the job.
- Basic understanding of chemistry
- Ability to obtain a DOE Clearance
- Ability to Qualify as a Waste Management Coordinator
Education and Experience Requirements:
- High school Diploma or equivalency
- Should this position fall under the DOE Order 426.2, the
applicant will also be required to meet the relevant
requirements.Business Associations: Interacts frequently with
internal personnel and outside representatives at various
levels.Participates and presents at meetings with internal and
external representatives. Interaction typically concerns resolution
of operational and scheduling issues. Impact: Decisions have an
impact on work processes and outcomes. Erroneous decisions or
recommendations or failure to complete assignments normally result
in serious delays and considerable expenditure of additional time,
human resources, and funds. Working Conditions and Physical
Requirements: Normally assigned to perform work in an office
environment. Only electrical hazards and other minor potential
hazards normally found in an office environment are anticipated.
Job performance requires adequate visual acuity and manual
dexterity for meeting the requirements of the discipline. Office
work environment. Safety, Security, and QualityWhile working to
achieve N3B LLCC objectives, the Environmental Professional 4 will
ensure all activities and operations are performed in a safe and
deliberate manner to include protecting the confidentiality and
integrity of Personally Identifiable Information (PII). This role
will maintain required safety, security and operational training;
assure procedural and regulatory compliance; and make safety,
security and quality an integral part of every task; including
taking the necessary steps to stop work if continuing the job is
unsafe or compromises security. Ability to obtain an L or Q level
