Job Description:
What You Will DoThis position will be filled at either the
Machinist 4 or 5 level, depending on the skills of the selected
candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be
assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.Machinist 4
($72,800 - $115,500)Working without appreciable direction, the
machinist will be required to work from complex drawings, sketches,
CAD models, and/or verbal instructions to facilitate the
manufacture of parts and assemblies by programming, setting up, and
operating manual and CNC mills and lathes, EDM and a variety of
general machine shop tooling. They will manufacture complex parts
made from different materials with exacting tolerances.Selected
candidates will work in a team environment to provide fabrication
services for a variety of customers both internal and external to
the Laboratory related to nuclear weapons programs.Machinist 5
($79,200 - $129,000)In addition to what was outlined at the lower
level, at this level you must be able to act as a lead for special
projects and review activities for other machinists.What You
NeedMinimum Job Requirements:Drawings & SpecificationsAbility to
read and interpret drawings and sketches which use Geometric
Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) symbols to determine design
factors such as size, shape, position and arrangement of features
and parts comprising assemblies. Must have the ability to interpret
and calculate specifications for project implementation and for
verifying the end product meets requirements.MachiningAdvanced
ability to create 3D models using CAD software and the
corresponding tool paths using CAM software along with intermediate
knowledge of G&M Codes. You must be able to apply this
knowledge to produce parts using conventional, CNC (to include 4
and 5 axis work), and advanced manufacturing techniques for parts
with a high degree of difficulty and tight tolerances, typically
+/- .0005. Skilled knowledge of applied mathematics and proficiency
in understanding machining processes, tools, and operations to
obtain various tolerances is required. You must also be proficient
in applied material properties and be willing to work with
classified and hazardous materials.Customer ServiceProvide
excellent customer service by creating manufacturing drawings or
sketches for the production of hardware while also reviewing
customer provided drawings and provide recommendations for revision
to ensure manufacturability. Ability to communicate effectively
with customers to extract design intent.Dimensional Inspection
KnowledgeAdvanced ability to perform precision measurements on
parts using inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers,
verniers, and others.Tools & Operating KnowledgeAbility to operate
manual and powered lifting equipment/ devices. Communication,
Teamwork and SafetyDemonstrated effectiveness in communication and
teaming with peers, customers, and technicians as appropriate to
achieve or negotiate work requirements. Ability to follow policies
and procedures for working safely in an industrial manufacturing

implementing policies and procedures for working safely in an
industrial manufacturing environment.Education/Experience at lower
level: Associates degree (AAS) in Machining Technologies or
equivalent precision metalworking program AND 6 years' experience;
OR 8 years' prototype experience; OR Journeyperson qualification
program AND 6 years' experience.Education/Experience at higher
level: Associates degree (AAS) in Machining Technologies or
equivalent precision metalworking program AND 10 years' experience;
OR 12 years' prototype experience; OR Journeyperson qualification
program AND 10 years' experience.Desired Qualifications: Additional
Tools & Systems: CAD/CAM experience, preferably
SolidWorks/CAMWorks,CREO and MasterCam.Certifications: RADWORKER
training and certification.Classified Materials Machining and
Hazardous Materials Machining to include experience with machining
materials having RAD, toxic, pyrophoric, explosive, and/or other
hazardous characteristics. Supervisory experience in a machine shop
environment.Clearance: DOE Q Clearance highly desirable. Location:

typical maintenance needs, and describe safe work practices in a
