TerranearPMC (TPMC) seeks to fill multiple full-time entry and mid-level geoscientist positions at our Los Alamos, New Mexico office. The TerranearPMC Los Alamos, NM office specializes in environmental monitoring and environmental remediation. Current active projects include groundwater and storm water monitoring, regional monitoring well drilling, geophysical investigations, and site characterization, remediation. Work is year-round and 90% outdoors. Many locations are remote and require hiking or four-wheel drive access.GeologistThe primary duty will be to support environmental characterization and remediation investigations. The candidate will support field campaigns and participate in data analysis and report writing. Field work would include surface and subsurface soil and rock sampling using hand and mechanical (e.g., hollow stem auger drill rig) methods, soil excavation oversight, and waste containerization/shipping. The successful candidate will also provide subcontractor management oversight on environmental remediation projects. Assistance in preparation of project start-up documents (e.g., work plans), daily reporting of field activities to the client, and production of technical reports components like sample data results tables, data visualization maps in ArcGIS, and data analysis.Surface Water Hydrologist The primary duties will be to collect surface water samples in support of the watershed monitoring program at Los Alamos National Laboratory. Additional duties include supporting the daily prioritization and implementation of surface water sampling and erosion control inspections in response to storm events and permit compliance requirements. Maintenance and installation of erosion controls is also required as needed. Groundwater Hydrogeologist The primary duties will be to collect groundwater samples in support of the watershed monitoring program at Los Alamos National Laboratory. Additional duties include supporting the planning, coordination, and implementation of extensive watershed-wide groundwater sampling campaigns. Groundwater is sampled from alluvial, intermediate and regional aquifer wells using a variety of dedicated and portable sampling systems. Field work requires operating and maintaining various field instruments such as water level recorders, data loggers, pressure transducers, and water quality probes.. -GeophysicistThis work supports the Environmental business line, primarily working on Department of Defense Advanced Geophysical Classification and Subsurface Utility Engineering projects for various clients and will support our technical team both in office and in the field. Office work will require supporting the TPMC team with the quality management program, work plan preparation, report writing, and data analysis. Field work will involve a variety of data collection tasks using geophysical equipment, GNSS, and other advanced positioning/remote sensing equipment. Field tasks will include establishing site land survey control, coordinating data collection teams, conducting quality control tests, and collecting digital geophysical data. Work locations are primarily within the United States and its territories, and requires a willingness to travel and work outdoors, sometimes on short notice and for extended periods of time.Minimum Requirements:

  • BA/BS degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Hydrogeology, or other related discipline (e.g., geophysics, geochemistry, environmental geology, engineering geology)
  • Valid U.S. Driver's License
  • Due to the nature of work, U.S. Citizenship is required
  • Good written and oral communication skillsDesired Experience/Qualifications:
    • Current 40-hr HAZWOPER training with 8-hr annual refresher
    • Ability to operate effectively with minimal direct supervision
    • Strong field experiences, including documentation of field observations
    • Experience with RTK GNSS and/or other high accuracy positioning equipment
    • Experience with MS Office products; compiling and maintaining MS Access databases
    • Database, GIS, CAD, visualization software skills
    • Experience using digital geophysical sensors (e.g., EM61-MK2, advanced EMI sensors, magnetometers, GPR, etc.)
    • Willingness to take on additional responsibilities commensurate with experience
    • Flexibility to learn new skills and engage with different team members
    • Desire to pursue professional registrations/certifications.
    • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds and safely drive a full-size pickup truckA successful candidate may be assigned to one or more projects throughout a given year or their career at TPMC.
