Job Description:
What You Will Do
NIE-IS is an engineering-focused group and part of the Network
Infrastructure and Engineering Division (NIE) which is responsible
for the architectural design and implementation of LANL's open and
classified networks. Reporting to NIE-IS group management, the
Network Engineering Team Leader will be responsible for managing
and supervising a team of Solutions Architects and Network
Professionals. As the team leader you will provide administrative
leadership of the team in the designing and implementation of
LANL's complex networks. Responsibilities include directing the
team on projects which will vary in size and duration. From
multiple year migrations (ipv6 transition) to shorter term but
highly impactful core router refresh. Selected candidate will also
manage the hiring process for student and staff positions, job-ad
development, interview design, conducting interviews, managing the
hiring committee, and completing hiring justification
documentation. Conducting performance management activities and
providing consulting on required professional development. The Team
Leader will also be coordinating equipment and software
acquisitions with NIE-IS group management. The Engineering Team
Leader also has regular interactions with vendors, subordinate
project leads, users, peers, multiple change control boards,
auditors, & NIE senior management. Team Leads are the first point
of contact and response for safety and security issues.

CCNA required
Education/Experience:
Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science,
Information Systems or related field from an accredited institution
and 3 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of
education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications:
Essential Job Functions(can perform with or without reasonable
accommodation): color discrimination, reaching overhead, reaching
horizontally, reaching down, climbing a ladder, operating a motor
vehicle, running & replacing network cables, typing, gripping with
the hands, the ability to lift up to 50 lbs, and replacing various
networking equipment (switches, Access Points, Linecards, modules,
etc)
Work Environment: In datacenters, telecommunications closets,
confined space, working alone, working weekends, working overtime
or irregular schedule, working off-shift/rotating schedule,
operation of motor vehicles. Will be asked to work in laboratory
areas that are in close proximity to areas performing hazardous
work.
Location: This position will be located in Los Alamos, NM with the
potential for a hybrid work arrangement (partially onsite/partially
offsite) from a location within 2 hours ground commute of this
location. Reporting onsite will be periodically required. Hybrid is
at the discretion of management and can change at any time with
appropriate notice.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to
serve a period of continuous service in their current position in
order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the
Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they
may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of
their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is
1 year.

Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable
decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA

Clearance: Q(Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants
selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and
must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified
matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US
Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon
position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons
information may be required that may or may not be available to
dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual
must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required
except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for
additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful
applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a
substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although
New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana,
use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A
positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of
employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for
regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served
the required period of continuous service in their current position
