PATIENT TRANSPORTER at University of New Mexico - Hospitals
summary: Responsible for safely transporting patients across
various age groups within hospital settings, ensuring adherence to
safety protocols and departmental policies. Provides non-patient
delivery services, supports communication between staff and
patients, and assists in training new personnel. Committed to
promoting patient safety and positive work environment through
proactive reporting and collaboration. Receive 17% Weekday Nights,
26% Weekend Nights and 15% Weekend Day shift differentials Minimum
Offer $ 16.03/hr. Maximum Offer $ 17.86/hr. Compensation Disclaimer
Compensation for this role is based on a number of factors,
including but not limited to experience, education, and other
business and organizational considerations. Department: Patient
Transport FTE: 1.00 Full Time Shift: Rotating Position Summary:
Responsible for providing safe, timely patient transportation and
additional non-patient pick-up and delivery service in assigned
areas. Cross-train and function as the departmental dispatcher as
requested. Act as a role model to promote a positive work
environment so that quality patient service and constructive staff
attitudes are facilitated. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and
departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may
include Neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric age
groups. Detailed responsibilities: * PATIENT TRANSPORT - Transport
patients to and from requesting areas; ensure adherence to all
safety measures * PROCEDURES - Ensure timely completion of tasks
according to departmental policies and procedures * PATIENT CARE -
Obtain essential information from Nurse regarding patient condition
* COMMUNICATION - Communicate with patients to inform of reason for
transport and to promote learning * COMMUNICATION - Communicate
with staff to assure that patient is ready for transport * PATIENT
CARE - Maintain unit sign-in/sign-out sheets * POLICIES - Comply
with work environment routines according to hospital, nursing
division and departmental policies and procedures * EQUIPMENT -
Safely and appropriately maintain and utilize equipment * TELEPHONE
AND PAGER - Use telephone and pager system * TRAINING - Act as role
model and precept the training, education and orientation of new
staff as assigned * PATIENT CARE - Cooperate in resolving conflict
with those involved in a constructive manner * PATIENT CARE -
Maintain and enhance positive patient and staff interactions *
PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies,
procedures and protocols * PATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive
approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve
patient safety through questioning of current policies and
processes * PATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct
environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient
at undue risk * PATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual
patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a
timely manner * PATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively
participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting
treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem
right" QualificationsRelated Education and Experience may be
substituted for one another on a year for year basis. Education:
Essential: * High School or GED Equivalent Experience: Essential:
Nonessential: Bilingual English/American Sign Language 1/2 year (6
months) directly related experience Nurse aide or patient
transporter experience Credentials: Essential: * CPR for
Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers w/in 30 days Physical
Conditions: Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force
occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10
to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people.
Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium
Work. Working conditions: Essential: * Minor Hazard - physical
risks, dirt, dust, fumes, noise * Tuberculosis testing is completed
upon hire and additionally as required Department: Clinical Nursing
