COMPACT LICENSE MUST HAVE 2 YEAR MED/SURG EXPERIENCE ACLS optional
POSITION TITLE: Clinical Nurse I, II, III, IV DEPARTMENT: Patient
Care Services POSITION SUMMARY: The Registered Nurse is a clinical
practitioner who coordinates and implements patient care specific
to the age of the patient population served on the assigned units.
He/she ensures that quality care is provided in an efficient and
safe manner, consistent with the unit's standards of care. He/she
demonstrates performance consistent with the mission, philosophy
and goals of the unit and organization. Demonstrates quality and
effectiveness in work habits and clinical practice. Treats staff,
physicians, patients and families with consideration and respect.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited
program for Registered Nursing. CERTIFICATION/LICENSES: Current New
Mexico RN license or current Compact state license. BLS
Certification required. (See Required Department Certification List
detailed on the last page of this document.) SKILLS: 1. Current
knowledge and skills appropriate to age/type of patient population
served 2. Knowledgeable and sensitive to patients' rights in the
delivery of care 3. Communicates in a clear concise manner
appropriate to the developmental age of patient. EXPERIENCE: NATURE
OF SUPERVISION: -Responsible to: Patient Care Director or Manager
ENVIRONMENT: 1. Bloodborne pathogen C (OR, PACU, L & D); 2.
Bloodborne pathogen B (other Patient Care areas). Exposure to
infectious diseases and x-rays. Works in a clean, well lighted,
ventilated smoke-free environment. Subject to stressful
professional relationships. Working hours are varied, with
flexibility due to unexpected changes in schedule and emergencies.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to handle emergency/crisis
situations, prolonged, extensive or considerable standing and
walking. Requires heavy physical effort to position, push and/or
transfer patients or equipment and supplies. Requires considerable
reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling and crouching. Ability to
judge distance and space relationships, see peripherally,
distinguish and identify different colors. Hearing and visual
acuity within normal or correctable limits. Manual dexterity and
fine motor coordination required. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Obtains
and records initial assessment and establishes priorities according
to patient age, symptoms and psychosocial needs. 2. Re-assesses
patients systematically to identify progress and trends that
require intervention. 3. Develops and implements a measurable
individualized plan of care for the patient within the time frame
established by Nursing Standards of Care. 4. Makes comprehensive
nursing decisions based on the interpretation of facts and
evaluations of patient outcome; modifies the plan of care based
upon the evaluations. 5. Participates in patient/significant other
health education and discharge planning. 6. Implements and
documents timely interventions appropriate to patient needs. 7.
Evaluates the plan of care. 8. Performs various Point of Care
testing procedures. Staff Responsibilities: 1. Utilizes effective
communication strategies, which result in intended outcomes. 2.
Delegates unit work assignments appropriately to ensure completion
of required patient care support activities. 3. Coordinates team
assignments and makes adjustments based upon patient and unit
needs; follows up on delegated patient care tasks for quality and
completeness. 4. Utilizes the appropriate chain of command for
resolution of difficult issues. 5. Participates in orientation of
new staff/students on the unit. 6. Functions as a resource to
visitors, physicians and staff; greeting them promptly and
courteously. 7. Promotes a positive work environment as evidenced
by demonstrating a professional, supportive attitude for the unit
staff. 8. Being receptive and responsive to new ideas. 9.
Participates in the unit's growth and development through various
mechanisms to improve organizational performance. 10. Collaborates
by working with others to achieve unit and organizational goals.
