The Government Affairs Director (GAD) has various duties and responsibilities including:

Monitors all proposed state legislation and state regulatory agencies for issues that may impact RANM. Recommends to the CEO and the Legislative Committee legislation that they should be monitored, supported or opposed. Research legislation in other states and provides language for bills to be introduced in New Mexico. Meets with lobbyists and CEO to formulate strategy for passage of RANM initiated or supported bills. Set up meetings of the Legislative Committee and the various task forces. Includes communicating with CEO and Committee/Task Force chairs, determining the agendas, providing supports materials, writing minutes and follow up communications. Contact for committee members.

Responsible for the Issues Advocacy Fund Committee (IAFC) including processing applications for funding, setting up meetings and follow up.

Overseeing the annual fundraising efforts of the REALTORS - Political Action Committee New Mexico (RPAC-NM); providing staff oversight of the RPAC-NM Trustees and meetings; overseeing the distribution of the RPAC-NM contributions to candidates; communicating with NAR to ensure NMAR meets all the national RPAC and advocacy goals.



Ensure Call For Action (CFA) compliance among local boards on behalf of federal issues

Keep abreast of national issues via various NAR instituted communications

Communicate with the New Mexico's NAR political representative

Oversee FPC selections

Attend yearly Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C.

Set up annual meeting with congressional delegation

Fulfill requests for letters from NMAR to delegation on national issues

Conduct interviews with congressional candidates

Attend yearly GAD institute


Keep abreast of state issues that may impact NMAR membership via state legislative interim committees, monitoring news, etc.

Responsible for all activity of the NMAR legislative Committee including setting up meetings, selecting various task forces, establishing agenda, providing all the support materials and writing the minutes with the support of assistant staff.

Help identify the various issues for NMAR's annual legislative priorities; with assistant staff create brochures and other materials for presentation to legislators and NMAR's membership.

Communicate with NMAR's lobbying team

Establish professional relationships with legislators

Oversee SPC recruitment and retention; organize training; fulfill Secretary of State paperwork.

Review all introduced legislation, determine their relevance to the membership and make recommendations on the level of importance which may include suggesting support or opposition.

Monitor all priority legislation and attend committee meetings at which time NMAR's position may be related.

Communicate to NMAR's membership legislative activity on a weekly basis during the session.

Oversee the initiation of CFA's via the Voter Voice to NMAR's membership on behalf of legislation that is of high importance.

Organize special events, including the annual "REALTORS - Day at the Roundhouse" and activity at the annual business and legislative meetings every January in Santa Fe.


Keep abreast of local issues via member communications and media monitoring.

Assist local organizations when requested.


Provide staff support for the RPAC-NM Trustees including set-up all aspects of trustee meetings including agenda production, support materials, producing minutes and initiating committee membership selection and communications.

Establish yearly fundraising, participation, major investor and President's circle goals

Advise and assist assistant staff in the creation of monthly local association reports via Aristotle (political fundraising platform available via NAR) and make sure it is distributed to all local associations, Trustees, DVP's and NMAR leadership.

Track local association efforts, determine, order awards and organize awards luncheon.

Initiate and help organize special events to include annual RPAC-NM kick- off event (January)

Oversee the tracking of contributions done by assistant staff to ensure major investors are recognized.

Oversee the response and fulfillment of local association requests.

Oversee the distribution of quarterly "split" information to local associations which includes the RPAC dollars available to local associations for their use.

Receive and process local candidate or other funding requests.

Process RPAC-NM contribution requests via the Trustees; help organize distribution and follow up; track all contributions or executive level candidates to ensure compliance with state contribution laws.

Oversee and assist as needed in the filing of the Secretary of State candidate contribution reports and filing of lobbying reports.

Oversee the initiation of check requests by assistant staff for congressional candidates to ensure their contribution.

Make sure that distribution of special recognition products (major investor jackets; 50 th anniversary pins, etc) is done.

Attend and invite select NMAR members to select political events (legislative dinners and receptions) in which RPAC-NM has made contributions.


Provide assistant staff support for the Issues Advocacy Fund Committee (IAFC) including all aspects of meetings including but not limited to: agenda, supporting documents, minutes and communications etc.

Process all IAFC requests.

Follow up with all requests to track the expenditures and ensure compliance with the IAFC bylaws.


Author articles or other communications for REALTORS - Voice publication by NMAR to its membership.

Works with marketing and communications to generate and publish information on social media

Participate in annual team building or other special meetings set up by NMAR.

Assist in annual fall meetings

Travel as needed and to local associations upon request.

Other duties as assigned.


Liaison for the Legislative, Issues Advisory, RPAC, and others as assigned.

a. Provides administrative and logistical staff support to NMAR's Committees; works with chair to create meeting agenda; obtains meeting location; sends out meeting notices; prepares and distributes agenda packets; prepares minutes; gathers background material as directed by the chair/committee; advises committee members on NMAR's policies and procedures.

Bachelor's degree preferred.

4-5 years' experience in governmental affairs preferred.

Understanding of the political and legislative process.

Basic understanding of real estate sales and mortgage financing.

Ability to follow and adhere to the bylaws and policy documents for each of the committees.

Basic computer skills for producing documents, spread sheets, tables and charts.
