Safety, through Cabinet Secretary, Jason Bowie is seeking
applicants for the position of New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy
Director in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Requirements Requisite Skills and
--- Applicant must regularly demonstrate sound and precise
decision-making ability and judgement.
--- Fairly and impartially apply laws, rules and advisement basing
them on fact-based assessment of discrete incidents, acknowledging
that their decisions / advisement will impact license holders and
--- Applicant must possess the skill to adapt to changing rule and
statute base. Additionally, applicant must be able to remain
flexible to the ever-changing training environment that may present
itself with regard to use of technology and distance learning.
--- Applicant must understand their constituency, their needs, and
possess the ability to deliver exceptional customer service.
--- Demonstrate professional, administrative leadership and vision
for the New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy.
--- Develop, recommend and implement goals, objectives and best
practices in the delivery of Law Enforcement and Telecommunicator
training services to their staff, and to the New Mexico law
enforcement and telecommunicator community and their agencies.
--- Applicant must possess the ability to manage, direct and
coordinate the daily work of professional staff, technical and
administrative support, subcontract and contract staff and
--- Applicant must be able to understand and interpret Title 10,
Chapter 29 and Title 1 of the New Mexico Administrative Code and
New Mexico State Statutes Chapter 29 as they relate to the New
Mexico Law Enforcement Academy, the Director, the LEAB (Board) and
those licensed professionals and agencies under that
--- Applicant must be able to prepare and implement budgets, make
recommendations on expenditures and projections and be able to
communicate clearly in both oral and written form.
--- Applicant must be confident in their ability to deliver sound
progress reports for the purposes of informing legislative
direction, oversight and fiduciary decision making. Qualifications
Job related and essential qualifications:
--- Applicant must possess knowledge of law enforcement and public
safety telecommunicator training, instruction and delivery
--- Applicant must possess strong leadership characteristics,
demonstrated history, and capability in progressing organizations
towards established goals.
--- Applicant must possess capability in the areas of evaluation
and analysis of law enforcement and telecommunicator training
programs and nationally accepted best practices.
--- Applicant must be able to apply excellent management techniques
towards the retention, recruitment and advanced training of Law
Enforcement Academy staff members.
--- Applicant must possess excellent grasp of principles of
supervision, training, evaluation, learning styles, and performance
measurement of same. Additionally, applicant must be knowledgeable
in Federal, State and local laws, ordinances, ad administrative
codes applicable to this position.
--- Applicant must be a strong interpersonal communicator, willing
to build a robust network of professional relationships across
multidisciplinary fields.Preferred Qualifications / Licenses and
--- Advanced secondary education in criminal justice, management,
administration, law, or other closely related field from an
accredited college or university.
--- Fifteen (15) years of experience in law enforcement including a
minimum of eight (8) years of experience in supervisory role or
management at a law enforcement agency, or governmental
subcomponent. The combination of relevant experience, education and
training can be considered sufficient at the discretion of the DPS
--- Applicant must demonstrate a sensitivity and comprehension of
the diverse nature of student and workforce populations related to
culture, gender identity, socioeconomic, sexual orientation and
--- Applicant must possess a valid New Mexico Law Enforcement
certification or be eligible for certification by waiver of
previous training within six months of appointment.
--- Applicant must possess at time of appointment or be able to
