Job Description:
The Manufacturing Manager 1 will be a member of the TA-55 TRU
Operations team within NPI-6, Hazardous Waste Management, and serve
as the floor supervisor for the team.The selected candidate will
report to the TA-55 TRU Operations team First Line Manager (FLM)
and will work directly with programmatic and facility operations
staff to manage TRU waste disposition activities throughout
TA-55.The selected candidate will oversee the day-to-day operations
of the team, as well as develop and deliver improved,
customer-focused, processes and procedures.An overarching component
of this position will be the coaching/mentoring of the team members
in Conduct of Operations. Specific job duties include, but are not
limited to: Serve as the technical liaison between the TA-55 waste
originators and the NPI-6 nuclear and hazardous materials
technicians to ensure the proper storage and disposition of TRU
wastes Coordinate various administrative functions in support of
operational program efficiency including planning, prioritizing,
and scheduling of team assignments Ensure compliance with
applicable regulatory requirements associated with the best safety,
environmental, security, and conduct of operations practices as
they relate to waste management activities Conduct both routine and
job-specific pre-job briefings with all involved workers and
provide technical expertise for the activities being performed
Assist TA-55 personnel in identifying pollution prevention/waste
minimization opportunities Assist in the oversight and management
of self-assessments and incident investigations and ensure
corrective actions are properly identified and implemented Ensure
that safety and security are an integral part of every task,
including taking the necessary steps to stop work if continuing a
job is unsafe or could compromise security Serve as Acting First
Line Manager (FLM) for the team during temporary absences of the
assigned FLM What You Need Leadership: Demonstrated record of
successful technical leadership and proven ability in supervising,
mentoring, motivating employees, and developing personnel such as
early career technicians. Knowledge and Expertise: Demonstrated
experience in TRU waste management scope and responsibilities,
coordinating work activities, and managing resources. Experience
planning for and managing tactical execution of work; tracking and
reporting progress. Experience performing work in a manufacturing
environment and executing work in compliance with facility
requirements and conduct of operations. Compliance: Knowledge of
and demonstrated application of one or more of the following:
state, federal, DOE, and LANL environmental and waste management
regulations and requirements, waste administrative requirements,
waste acceptance criteria, and waste certification requirements.
Accountability: Demonstrated experience in implementing and
maintaining formality of operations in a nuclear facility (or
comparably complex facility) and demonstrated experience in
developing procedural controls that tie the level of detail
appropriately to the consequences of missing performance
deliverables. Communication: Demonstrated effective written and
oral communication skills as evidenced by internal and/or external
interactions, meetings, and briefings; effective interpersonal
skills and demonstrated ability to interact with all levels of
personnel and customers. DOE Order 426.2: Requires a High School
Diploma and 3 years nuclear experience. Full-time related academic
training (e.g., degree programs, trade schools, vocational
programs, etc.) may be substituted on a one-for-one basis for 2 of
the 3 years nuclear experience. Education/Experience: Position
requires a Bachelor's degree and 1 year of related experience; or,
an equivalent combination of education and experience directly
related to the occupation. Desired Qualifications: Knowledge:
Demonstrated experience with the Waste Compliance and Tracking
System (WCATS), Microsoft Office Suite, LANMAS, and Outlook.
Nuclear Facility Compliance: Demonstrated experience-executing work
in compliance with facility requirements. Experience with nuclear
high hazard facility operating requirements, safety authorization
basis and/or Conduct of Operations planning and execution.
Clearance: Active DOE Q Clearance and HRP Certification. Note to

Location: This position will be physically located in Los Alamos,
New Mexico. Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are
required to serve a period of continuous service in their current
position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs

documented approval of their Division Leader. The position
commitment for this position is 1 year. Essential Job Functions

performance of duties in one or more of the nuclear facilities

requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in
10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, --712.11. These
requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as
periodic medical and psychological evaluations. 426.2: This
position is subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection,
Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear
Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure
candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform
the requirements of the job. New-Employment Drug Test: The
Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a
new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy
that includes random drug testing. Regular position: Term status
Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are
converted to regular status. Internal Applicants: Regular
appointment employees who have served the required period of
continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply
