DescriptionPOSITION SUMMARY: The Sr. Director, Development reports directly to the Chief Development Officer (CDO) of the CHRISTUS St. Vincent Foundation. S/he serves as a key team member and an active participant in making strategic decisions affecting the St. Vincent Hospital Foundation (Foundation). The Sr. Director is responsible for fundraising and development activities of the Foundation and to ensure a comprehensive fundraising program on behalf of CHRISTUS St. Vincent (CSV). In addition, the Sr. Director will work closely with the CDO and the Foundation Board of Directors as they take on fundraising campaigns. S/he is responsible for assisting the CDO in supporting the Foundation's internal leadership and management and assisting its external leadership as well as participating in the vision, direction and inspiration to ensure the Foundation's success. The Sr. Director helps forge new relationships to build the Foundation's impact, and financial resources. The Sr. Director will participate in the design and implementation of a comprehensive plan for developing key external alliances by cultivating individual and philanthropic support. The Sr. Director has responsibility for supporting the CDO and Foundation Board/Hospital-established annual goals through the solicitation of major gifts, federal and state grants, special events, and corporate and foundation giving. S/he is responsible for expanding and diversifying the Foundation's donor base/pipeline and works closely with other team members to secure funding for new initiatives that are in alignment with the priorities of CSV. It is expected that the amount raised by the Foundation will offset 100% of its operating costs and that its overall fundraising goals will increase as the CDO systematically and effectively strengthens the organization's overall fundraising capacity. RequirementsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree required. Masters preferred. CERTIFICATION/LICENSES: N/A SKILLS:* Must be a proven leader with great vision, a dynamic personality and have the ability to converse on a variety of topics while addressing large or small gatherings of individuals, emceeing events and activities, and generally, comfortable in any kind of group or individual setting* Must also possess a strong level of comfort working with and addressing physicians, nurses, other medical personnel, and major donors* Must be able to participate in the development and implementation of a strategic plan for the Foundation and CSV through developing sources of continuing support from grateful patients and families, individuals, foundations and corporations* Must also work closely with Foundation Board members to identify prospects and develop suitable fund-raising approaches for individuals, organizations and businesses* Must be able to represent the organization to a variety of community organizations and to the general public* Must demonstrate behavior consistent with the mission and core values of the St. Vincent Hospital Foundation and of CSV? Health care industry experience helpful? Tangible experience of having expanded and cultivated existing donor relationships over time? Excellent communication skills, both written and oral; ability to influence and engage a wide range of donors and build long-term relationships? Strong organizational skills? Flexible and adaptable style; a leader who can positively impact both strategic and tactical fundraising initiatives? Ability to work both independently without close oversight, but also as a team player who will productively engage with others at varying levels of seniority within and outside CSV? High energy and passion for CSV's mission is essential? Ability to construct, articulate, and implement annual strategic development plan? Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail EXPERIENCE: 10-Plus years of professional leadership experience managing all facets of Foundation or other not-for-profit or for-profit operations including fundraising, fiscal management, financial reporting, board recruitment and retention, staff supervision, planning and successful implementation of programs and activities. ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE INCLUDES? A demonstrated track record of personal success in a hospital foundation or other fundraising arm of a healthcare organization, or other similarly complex fundraising environment.? Practical experiences in a diverse city like Santa Fe; current and long standing residence in Santa Fe is preferred.? Demonstrated management skills, including the ability to motivate and to develop staff; a track record of successfully developing and mentoring board members.? Strong breadth and depth of experience in annual giving, capital campaigns, major gifts, deferred giving, grantsmanship and other appropriate forms of fundraising.? Personal success in the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of donors and potential donors.? Prior experience in the successful management of budgets including budget development, budget management and budget reporting.? Demonstrated knowledge of planned giving principles and practices, including regulations applicable to estate planning as well as trust formulation and administration including a working knowledge of current fundraising software and Internet-based options.? Excellent written and oral communication skills. Creative writing and editing skills.? A supportive, approachable and self-directed individual who has the motivation and skill to contribute as a team member and, in particular, to work autonomously.? A desire to become an integral part of the CHRISTUS St. Vincent community. NATURE OF SUPERVISION:RESPONSIBLE TO: The Sr. Director is a direct report to the Chief Development Officer of Christus St. Vincent. ENVIRONMENT: Works in a clean, well-lighted, ventilated smoke-free environment. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Subject to stressful professional relationships. Working hours vary, with flexibility due to unexpected changes in schedule and emergencies. Requires the ability to speak, listen, develop and communicate written materials. Frequent prolonged periods of sitting. Extensive use of hands for writing and use of computer. Moderate physical effort (able to lift/carry up to 25 pounds).
