Job Description:
Delivering science and technology to protect our nation and
promote world stability Seeking an enthusiastic and energetic
Deputy Division Leader (R&D Manager 5) for J-Division to manage
the Laboratory's Hydrodynamic and Sub-Critical Experiments
Execution Support (HSCEES) Program and associated personnel
supporting the program within the Division Office. The HSCEES
Program provides the base capabilities necessary to successfully
field and execute hydros and subcritical experiments, some of which
are key capabilities for the entire NNSA Weapons Complex. This
position will report to the Division Leader for Integrated Weapons
Experiments (J-Division) and will reside with the J-Division Office
at TA-15. In addition, this person will report programmatically to
the Office of Experimental Sciences (OES) in Weapons Physics
(ALDX). The Deputy Division Leader will assist J-Division with
broad strategic planning, multi-program development, diagnostics
capabilities advancement, programmatic risk management, and the
integrated hydro schedule. The Deputy Division Leader will
participate on hydro peer reviews, applicable shot review
committee, working groups, and facilitating communications across
the relevant divisions throughout the hydro life cycle. The Deputy
Division Leader will work with deployed resources on shot
schedules, shot planning, performance reporting, program
milestones, preparing the annual National Hydrotest Plan (NHP),
annual HSEES Program Plan and other formal documentation as needed.
The Deputy Division Leader will be responsible for working in
conjunction with other managers to provide leadership and
integration across the larger LANL Weapons Program. Coordination
with the Nevada Weapons Experiments (NWE) Program Manager and
Nevada Program Office is particularly important. In addition, the
Deputy Division Leader is expected to integrate and support efforts
with the other OES Programs, the Weapons Infrastructure &
Operations Program and several Global Security Programs. The
selected candidate will be responsible for the quality of Los
Alamos representation and participation in technical and
programmatic reviews at the national level. What You Need
Expert-level knowledge of and experience in leadership and
management of technical personnel and programs, including success
at line management, program development, advocacy, resource
allocation, program execution, and customer relations. A record of
successful accomplishments and/or demonstrated technical expertise
in two or more of the following: dynamic experiments, weapons
engineering, timing & firing systems, explosives science, and/or
weapons physics. A record of successful teamwork and consensus
building demonstrated by working across organizational and program
boundaries. Demonstrated excellence in communication and
interpersonal skills evidenced through recent management
assignments, internal and external interactions, briefings,
presentations, and documentation. Demonstrated ability to lead,
motivate and focus personnel (scientists, engineers, technicians,
analysists, managers, etc) and work with a diverse customer base.
Demonstrated commitment to Laboratory goals in safety, security,
environment, diversity, recruiting, and employee development.
Desired Qualifications: Demonstrated experience with hydrodynamic
and/or subcritical experiments fielding and execution. Knowledge
and/or participation in the design, fabrication, and assembly of
hydrodynamic and/or subcritical experiments. Demonstrated
experience in the fielding and analysis of diagnostics methods used
on hydrodynamic and/or subcritical experiments. In depth knowledge
of the weapons program structure, reporting systems, financial
management systems, and other applicable business systems.
Education: Minimum of a BS (MS or PhD preferred) in a physical
science or engineering field. Essential Job Functions (can perform

candidate will be required to travel in support of program
meetings, reviews and other activities in support of the fielding
and execution of hydros and subcritical experiments. Location: This
position will be physically located in Los Alamos, NM. Where You

information. New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires
successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and
maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug
testing. Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees
applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular
status. Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have
served at least one year of continuous service in their current
position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the
Laboratory. If an employee has not served the one year of
continuous service, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with
the documented approval of their Division Leader.Please refer to
