Job Description: The incumbent will serve as the Pueblos Animal
Control Officer; responsible to implement and enforce the Animal
Control Ordinance, provide education and outreach to the community,
seek funding and build networks with law enforcement, other pueblos
and organizations to bring resources into the community. The
incumbent must be able to communicate and work closely with our
existing partners and volunteers for the benefit of the community
and its animals. Duties: On the job responsibilities include, but
are not limited to the following areas: Understand, fairly apply
and enforce the Animal Control Ordinance Work with community
members to teach them how to be a responsible pet owner Work
closely with Tribal Officials and other Law Enforcement such as BIA
and Sandoval County to address our Animal Control needs Build
networks and seek funding and resources to sustain the Animal
Control Division Host quarterly Spay and Neuter Clinics Attend
Training, become a IHS Lay Vaccinator, provide rabies vaccinations
to the community following the rules of the IHS Lay Vaccinator
program. Attend Animal Cruelty and other trainings, provide
trainings in turn to the community Must work safely and work as a
team with other DNR Staff Must work quickly and not waste time on
the job Must have a valid drivers license and be insurable under
the Pueblos insurance, must be drug free Must follow the training
you receive regarding Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and safe
working around animals and use of associated equipment. Must take
good care of Pueblo vehicles and resources, keep inventory and make
sure equipment and supplies are maintained and accounted for.
Responsible for cleaning and preparing work sites. Must notify
supervisors of any accidents, or incidents which take place at the
job site. Immediately report any unusual or unsafe conditions
including trespass and other violations of Pueblo law. Adhere to
all Pueblo of San Felipe Employee Policies and Procedures. Must
write grants, network, seek and apply information on resources
available to sustain the program and for the community Develop
forms, spreadsheets, policies, fee schedules as described in the
Animal Control Ordinance and as needed to grow and progress the
program. Other duties as assigned. Additional Responsibilities:
Skills Must work effectively within a team, follow written and
verbal instruction. Must be able to learn to the Animal Control
Ordinance, be respectful with the community and provide education.
Must be willing to be on call, including weekends. Incumbent must
have the ability to communicate effectively with members of the
Tribal Administration, DNR and tribal community. San Felipe tribal
member and Keres speaking is preferred. Must have the ability to
work within the cultural and traditional aspects of the Pueblo.
Must be able to work with animals, tools, write reports, work
outdoors, lift, follow instruction, work safely, communicate well.
Qualifications: Education:HS Diploma or equivalent preferred.
Experience/Basic Knowledge: oneto three years of related experience
preferred, motivation to learn a plus Required
Licenses/Certifications: validdrivers license required. Physical
Requirements: Mustbe able to work outdoors, be on call, work safely
around animals, be polite and fair with community, work with law
enforcement. Must follow verbal instruction, must work safely, must
use PPE Preferences: San Felipe Preference and Veterans Preference.
Working Conditions: Both indoors and outdoors, with animals and
outdoors in all types of weather Additional Info: This position is
contingent upon funding availability. Supervision and Guidelines:
