What You Will Do
Los Alamos National Laboratory is looking for an exceptional
Director for National Security and International Studies Office
(NSIS). This is an opportunity where you can apply your
executive-level experience and influence in the national security
community. The NSIS Director uses a mix of technical and policy
expertise to advise the Lab Director and stakeholders on emerging
national and international security issues. In this role you would
review, develop, and improve national security laboratory
strategies and operating plans. You would also be integral in
helping Laboratory management shape mission program strategies to
respond to national priorities. You can expect to regularly host
and coordinate senior visitors to LANL as well as facilitating
Tri-Lab coordination on behalf of the Lab Director. About the NSIS
Office
NSIS is responsible for providing national security and technology
policy analysis relevant to the Laboratory's mission. NSIS is part
office, part research center and part network. Working with LANL's
weapons, global security and science, technology and engineering
directorates, NSIS monitors the national and international security
environment, as well as scientific developments, and assesses
impacts to the Laboratory and the nation. The Office includes
subprograms and initiatives such as partnership with universities
on developing national security capabilities and within the
Laboratory to focus on going beyond stockpile stewardship to
assessing national security threats of the future. The office
facilitates internactions with a variety of international partners
and stakeholders. This includes working with foreign partners
and/or international organizations on issues related to security,
nonproliferation, WMD treaties and agreements, and/or arms control.
What You Need National Security & Political Environment
This role requires someone who is an expert in both national
security and political environment of the United States, and
understanding of global context. The ability to recognize and
convey how emerging trends in national security and the political
environment could impact Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) will
be essential.
Stakeholder Engagement & Relationship Building
A demonstrated ability to engage with and influence a diverse set
of stakeholders in the private sector, government and academia is
critical for this position. Additionally, the ability to foster and
maintain relationships internally with Laboratory managers and
staff and with partner organizations.
Policy & Program Analysis
To qualify for this position you will need to have demonstrated
experience developing and articulating national security strategies
and providing policy and program analysis based on gathering and
synthesizing input from technical experts.
LANL Mission
In order to successfully fulfill this role, you will need to have
an expert level of understanding of the LANL Mission.
Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree from an
accredited institution and 12 years related experience; or, an
equivalent combination of education and experience directly related
to the position. Desired Qualifications: Line/Program
Management
It would be preferable if you have experience in a line or program
management role. Events It would be great if you have experience
organizing and hosting workshops, conferences, strategy
meetings.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to
serve a period of continuous service in their current position in
order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the

their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is

new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy
that includes random drug testing. Regular position: Term status
Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are
converted to regular status. Internal Applicants: Regular
appointment employees who have served the required period of
continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply
for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not
served the required period of continuous service, they may only
apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their
Division Leader. Please refer to Policy Policy P701 for applicant
