JOB DESCRIPTION Position Title: Executive Director FLSA Status: Full Time/Exempt; flexible schedule SFFMI Supervisor's Title: Institute Board of Directors Starting Salary: DOE - MISSION STATEMENT: The Institute is the non-profit sister organization to the Santa Fe Farmers' Market.The Santa Fe Farmers' Market Institute's mission is to advocate for farmers, ranchers, and other land-based producers; provide equitable access to fresh, local food; own and operate a year-round venue for the Santa Fe Farmers' Market; and manage programs to help sustain a profitable, locally based agricultural community. PRIMARY PURPOSE: The Executive Director (ED) assumes executive responsibility for leading the SantaFe Farmers' Market Institute (Institute), directing all aspects of operations, and overseeing internal systems and processes, allowing the Institute to achieve business results that consistently, over time, contribute to the operating reserve and ensure the programmatic impact and financial health of the organization.The ED ensures well planned implementation and growth of the Institute in accordance with its mission, vision, plans, and policies adopted by the Board ofDirectors; provides leadership to the staff; and acts as the face of the organization in the community. The role requires a close working relationship with the sister organization, the Santa Fe Farmers Market.The ED reports to and partners with the Board of Directors. FOCUS AREAS: Programs: Coordinate with Program Director, Program Committee and SantaFe Farmers' Market (Market) staff and vendors to develop and implement mission-consistent programming, including interfacing with MicroloanCommittee to facilitate vendor microloans. Development: Coordinate with Development and Communications Director and Development Committee to create and implement annual development plan to generate funds to support programming and other aspects of operations, including grant writing. Personnel : In coordination with Operations Director, develop and retain a diverse staff, and monitor development and implementation of personnel policies, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations. Market Relations: Steward the relationships with the Market board of directors, Market CEO and staff, and Market vendors. External Relations: Engage with external organizations and partners to furtherInstitute's interests. Finance: Work with Operations Director, contracted accounting firm, andFinance Committee to develop, implement and monitor annual budget and financial policies and procedures; oversee completion of the annual audit and990. Board of Directors : Provide Board with recommendations on the future strategic direction, structure, resources, and management of the Institute and lead implementation of approved recommendations. Grow the Board ofDirectors and Committees to meet the needs of the organization, including training and participating in committee work. Building Management : Together with Operations Director, oversee landlord/tenant relations and leases, coordinate with master landlord Santa FeRailyard Community Corp., and collaborate with Building Manager to address short and longer-term building needs. Other duties as assigned. Specific tasks will be reviewed periodically and revised to meet Institute's needs. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree preferred. At least five years nonprofit leadership experience required. Though nonprofit experience is preferred, equivalent experience in related fields may be substituted. Aware and respectful of local culture, farming traditions and food policy. Organized and inspiring team leader. Experience working with nonprofit boards. Ability to bring effective leadership to planning, problem solving, and decision making. Experience analyzing financial information for budgeting and planning purposes. Knowledge of commercial leasing and building management skills a plus Superb written, verbal, and people skills. Bilingual (Spanish) a plus.
